To the editor: I'm a lately retired registered nurse whose specialty was surgical procedure. After I started practising nursing in Los Angeles, elective abortions had been preformed within the working rooms of most hospitals within the space. Catholic hospitals weren't included. (“Will the forty ninth anniversary of Roe vs. Wade be the final one? Abortion rights are below assault,” editorial, Jan. 21)

I've seen the outcomes of “back-alley” abortions, the place the sufferers had been despatched to acute-care hospitals after their procedures to “clear up” if potential.

What of us want to appreciate is girls will get abortions at any value. My plea is that the flexibility to decide on stay viable and authorized for girls, and that Roe vs. Wade stay intact.

I'm conscious of the ideological tilt of this Supreme Courtroom, however my hope is that the justices don't forget their job is to guard the Structure and never let their very own private beliefs intrude.

I applaud Carla Corridor for her editorial.

To the editor: Corridor’s editorial is the same old all-or-nothing pitch by abortion proponents. It's disingenuous to proceed to push for second- and even third-trimester abortions contemplating all of the progress in scientific information of fetal growth.

A 2021 Related Press ballot confirmed that solely 34% of Individuals assist permitting most abortions after 12 weeks. After nearly 50 years, individuals nonetheless consider in protections for a growing fetus after the primary trimester.

In 2004, the Guttmacher Institute’s personal statistics confirmed that solely about 8% of all abortions had been for causes reminiscent of fetal abnormality, rape or to save lots of the mom’s life.

Roe vs. Wade won't ever garner extra assist from unbiased voters like me till the Courtroom permits abortions after the primary trimester — about 10% of all abortions — to be outlawed.

To the editor: When the Supremes have their manner with Roe vs. Wade — as they shall — what occurs subsequent?

Will purple states generously fund youngster care? Make investments cash to make all public colleges glorious? Assist paid household depart? Present state-of-the-art healthcare for people who find themselves disabled? Make household planning free and extensively obtainable?

If sure, then bravo! You might be constant in a pro-life motion that cherishes and helps the dear lifetime of the kid and the household, not simply the fetus.

However I’m not holding my breath, as a result of that form of assist means placing your cash the place your mouth is.
