Durham College college students have criticised a scheme which urges college students to attend “anti-racism coaching”.
College students have branded the coaching, which is aimed toward “making certain a safer group for folks of color”, as “anti-white indoctrination”, with some refusing to attend.
These from the college’s John Snow Faculty had been knowledgeable of the coaching by electronic mail.
The e-mail stated it was “necessary” to attend the talks, which might be run by pupil physique, the Durham’s Folks of Color Affiliation (DPOCA).
However the college has since clarified its stance by saying it was on the “discretion of people” whether or not to attend or not and that it was “not a College of Faculty initiative”.
The scheme has been met by backlash from some college students, together with Samantha Smith.
Ms Smith took to Twitter to say: “As a combined race pupil, I refuse to participate on this anti-white indoctrination”.
Different college students described the coaching as “divisive” and that “college students needs to be revising for exams as an alternative”.
A spokesperson for the DPOCA defined why the coaching was scheduled.
It stated: “The intention of the workshop is to create a extra inclusive, not divisive, tradition on campus.”
Whereas a Durham College spokesman added: 'The availability of this coaching was not a College or Faculty initiative, however was taken by the student-led JCR at John Snow Faculty.
“The coaching is delivered by DPOCA, an affiliation of Durham College students' Union.

This comes after controversial journalist Rod Liddle was invited to talk on the college’s South Faculty, with college students protesting towards his invitation as they claimed he was “racist”.
