At the very least six folks died and 24 others have been wounded in a taking pictures at a Fourth of July parade within the Chicago suburb of Highland Park, and officers have been looking for the shooter, who seemingly fired on the festivities from a rooftop, police stated Monday.

Highland Park Police Cmdr. Chris O’Neill urged folks to shelter in place as authorities looked for the gunman.

“This morning ... our neighborhood was terrorized by an act of violence that has shaken us to our core,” Mayor Nancy Rotering stated on the information convention. “Our hearts exit to the households of the victims at this devastating time. On a day that we got here collectively to have fun neighborhood and freedom, we're as a substitute mourning the tragic lack of life and combating the phobia that was introduced upon us.”
