Scottish mountain biker Rab Wardell has died simply days after profitable the Scottish MTB XC Championships.
Scottish Biking confirmed on Tuesday night that Wardell died in his sleep, aged 37.
It stated in a press release on Twitter: “We're devastated to verify the information that worldwide mountain biker & former worker, Rab Wardell, has handed away right this moment.
“We have now little or no data at this stage, however we ship our love & help to his household, mates & all these in our neighborhood who knew him.
“We ask that you just respect Rab’s household’s privateness at this extremely unhappy time.”
Wardell gained the elite males’s title at Kirroughtree Forest on Sunday overcoming a number of punctures to win on the ultimate lap.
British Biking paid tribute to Mr Wardell in a press release: "Rab was an excellent rider, good friend and ambassador for our sport. Our ideas are along with his household and plenty of mates."
On their Fb web page, SXC (Scottish Cross Nation Affiliation) stated: “We have now the saddest information to share with you all right this moment.
“We're devastated to relay to you the tragic information that our good friend, our champion Rab Wardell has died in a single day.
“Our deepest sympathy to his mates, household and family members. He will probably be really missed by our neighborhood and his willpower, expertise and friendship will dwell on in all our hearts and recollections.
