Welsh councillor investigated by police after posting 'xenophobic' gun picture about 'English people'

A Welsh councillor is being investigated by police after posting an image of himself holding a gun on social media whereas commenting that he was ensuring “there wasn’t any English individuals attempting to cross the channel”.

Some politicians have referred to as for Plaid Cymru councillor Jon Scriven to be suspended over the now-deleted Fb submit which has been referred to as “xenophobic” in the direction of the English.

The submit by the consultant of Penyrheol in Caerphilly stated: “Ogmore-by-Sea tonight for a fast swim and ensure there wasn’t any English individuals attempting to cross the channel.”

Though the submit was uploaded to the platform on August 8 and later deleted, it started to be broadly shared on Monday afternoon.

Mr Scriven has now apologised for the submit, writing on Fb: “I want to apologise for any offence attributable to my now deleted Fb submit.

“It was ill-judged and I've apologised to the group chief Lindsay Whittle who has accepted my apology.”

South Wales police's Michelle Conquer stated: “An allegation of malicious communications has been reported to us and we're investigating the matter.”

Welsh Tory chief Andrew RT Davies tweeted that he was “speechless”.

“This can be a Plaid Cymru councillor,” he stated. “This type of xenophobic perspective is beneath us.”

He referred to as on Plaid chief Adam Value to not “let one other scandal rage on with out decisive motion”.

It's potential Mr Davies was referring to the saga involving MP Jonathan Edwards who was suspended then readmitted into the Westminster celebration after receiving a police warning for assaulting his spouse.

Welsh Liberal Democrats chief Jane Dodds MP stated in an announcement: “There's a clear implication of violence and xenophobia on this submit.

“Whether or not or not it was supposed as a joke or not, it's totally inappropriate for an elected official to make such feedback, when they need to know higher.

Caerphilly Senedd member Labour’s Hefin David had earlier within the day tweeted a screenshot of the submit saying: “Not acceptable certainly Caerphilly Plaid?”

“We must be looking for to unite and deal with actual issues such because the cost-of-living disaster.

A Plaid Cymru spokesperson stated: “Councillor Scriven’s now deleted submit was inappropriate and goes towards Plaid Cymru’s views and values.

“He was proper to apologise for any offence prompted.

“All Plaid Cymru elected representatives have an obligation to uphold the best requirements. Councillor Scriven has been suspended pending an investigation.”
