Ms Pelosi, who's second in line to the US presidency, was not at residence on the time of the early morning break-in.

The circumstances of the assault have been unclear, together with how the intruder bought into the house.

The assault comes lower than two weeks earlier than midterm elections by which management of the Home and the Senate is at stake.

He was sentenced to 5 days in jail in Napa County, California.
