To the editor: As I learn the article about Kroger grocery employees struggling to afford meals and housing, I used to be reminded of the previous joke, “There are two varieties of individuals — those that assume there are two varieties of individuals, and those that don’t.”
On this case, I feel there should be.
One type is outraged and saddened after they learn that “greater than two-thirds of Kroger employees battle to afford meals, housing or different fundamental wants,” after which, on the very backside of the article, that “the nation’s three largest grocery suppliers, Walmart, Kroger and Albertsons, earned an extra $6.8 billion in revenue within the first three quarters of 2020 in comparison with 2019 — a mean enhance of 98%.”
The opposite type feels that so long as Kroger’s inventory is doing effectively (and it's), it’s all good.
Unhappy to say, however I suppose we all know which type is in control of financial coverage within the U.S. We will do higher, however we select to not.
