Letters to the Editor: Shut down Mater Dei. It’s the Christian thing to do

Mater Dei High School in Santa Ana on Dec. 2, 2021.

To the editor: As a 1988 graduate of Mater Dei Excessive College who was sexually abused whereas a scholar there, I've just one thought after studying concerning the newest sexual abuse lawsuit in opposition to the varsity:

Why is that campus nonetheless open?

Survivors, lawsuits, faculty statements and police experiences have uncovered a long time of sexual abuse, violence, hazing, petty retribution, institutional rot and a “cultish” ambiance that exploits the weak and susceptible.

All of the Heisman Trophies on the earth won't ever make up for a single victimized little one.

It’s time that the Diocese of Orange aligns its priorities with the Christian values it claims to uphold. It’s time to wash up or shut down Mater Dei.

To the editor: I used to be a scholar at Mater Dei from 1969-73. Essentially the most important lesson I realized from the varsity was the double commonplace.

A soccer participant might do no fallacious. Different college students received expelled for minor infractions. Footballers received their wrists slapped.

The Diocese of Orange ought to have realized by now that relying so closely on sports activities to pay the payments results in important issues. A Catholic faculty needs to be modeling true Christian ideas, not the double commonplace.
