Former OPSEU financial services administrator countersues union, denies misconduct


TORONTO - The previous monetary companies administrator of an Ontario public sector union is countersuing the group, claiming he did not obtain any funds he wasn't entitled to and all the time upheld his duties.


The Ontario Public Companies Workers Union is suing former monetary companies administrator Maurice Gabay, together with former president Warren (Smokey) Thomas and a former vice-president, for almost $6 million it alleges they unlawfully transferred to themselves, together with in strike fund money and union autos.


In a countersuit and assertion of defence, Gabay argued he had executed nothing mistaken.


“Gabay denies that he engaged in any misconduct, together with any critical misconduct, as alleged by OPSEU. Gabay denies that he obtained any funds, funds or compensation from OPSEU to which he was not entitled,” the assertion of defence stated.


“Gabay denies that he didn't uphold his duties to OPSEU, and denies that he didn't implement OPSEU's insurance policies and procedures.”


OPSEU's assertion of declare alleged union cash was used to pay for house repairs and shifting bills for somebody with whom Gabay had a private relationship.
